When installing a new 1911 trigger chances are the trigger pad is oversized and won’t fit through the opening. That is by design to eliminate unwanted vertical sloop when hand fitting a new 1911 trigger. With the trigger guard in the way it’s hard to measuring the opening for the pad. It best done with some trial-and-error hand fitting.

Measure the overall height of your trigger. This is your starting point right that number down. Now remove material by filing or milling equal amounts top and bottom. On the top remove .005 of material, verify by remeasuring the pad it should be .005 shorter than your starting number. Now try fitting back into the frame. If not remove another .005 of the bottom of the pad. Alternate top and bottom until the trigger slides into the frame all the way. Once fit the trigger should move freely with little or no resistance.
